Muratec Europe (UK), manufacturer of multifunction office equipment and business solutions, has launched ScanTag, a metadata capture solution for Muratec multifunctionals. Available for the Muratec MFX-2050 and MFX-1450 models, ScanTag enables users to enter indexing fields on a Muratec multifunctional's touchscreen to facilitate document archiving into backend document management applications.
To utilise the ScanTag function, a system administrator can register several metadata fields on a Muratec multifunctional device using the intuitive browser interface. They then insert their document into the automatic document feeder and select ‘ScanTag'. Users can then enter the required indexing fields, choose the document file format (TIFF or PDF) and select ‘Start'. The document will be scanned and converted into the selected file format and the indexing fields will be converted into a CSV or XML data file, depending on the format required by the document management system. Both file types are delivered to a network folder, retrieved by the document management system and indexed.
Throughout the development process Muratec has been working with leading document management provider DocuWare Corporation to customise the ScanTag solution for import into DocuWare.
Commenting on the launch of ScanTag, Stewart Carroll, general manager of Muratec Europe (UK) said: "We see document workflow systems increasing in use as companies invest in structured document management systems for efficient retention and management of business critical documentation. To maximise the functionality of these investments users require a method of conveniently capturing and indexing hardcopy documents. With the launch of ScanTag users can quickly capture and index documents from their Muratec multifunctional."
Stefan Schindler, director of DocuWare Ltd, said: "Because Muratec and DocuWare share many customers it was only natural to integrate ScanTag with DocuWare. The customer can maximize their investment in the Muratec multifunctional by using the ScanTag functionality and automate business processes and workflow."
