NATIONAL IDENTITY FRAUD PREVENTION WEEK

Released 24/07/2008

BBC's Adrian Chiles to front campaign

National Identity Fraud Prevention Week, a major annual awareness campaign warning of the dangers of identity fraud, will take place from 6 - 12 October 2008.

The campaign will be supported by an expert group of public and private sector partners:  the Association of Chief Police Officers, the Metropolitan Police, CIFAS - the UK's fraud prevention service, the Identity and Passport Service, the British Retail Consortium, the Federation for Small Business, Fellowes, Callcredit, Experian, Equifax, the Serious Organised Crime Agency, and Royal Mail. They will be joined by the BBC's Adrian Chiles, who has agreed to front this year's campaign and help drive awareness of identity fraud - one of Britain's most insidious crimes.

Identity fraud costs the economy £1.7 billion annually. National Identity Fraud Prevention Week 2008 will aim to encourage the general public and businesses to remain vigilant and continue taking the necessary measures to protect themselves from becoming victims of identity fraud.
