Document management company praised for green project

Document management and imaging software author, Version One (www.versionone.co.uk), has won an International Green Hero Award from UK environment group, The Green Organisation, in recognition of the company's commitment to environmental best practice for the fifth year running. Version One was especially praised for its environmental initiative - ‘The Clean and Green Project'.

The Green Hero Award was presented to Version One by actress Carol Royle during a ceremony at the Tower of London on Monday, 14 June. The award is presented annually to organisations that demonstrate a commitment to the environment whilst helping others to follow their environmental lead.

As part of the project, Version One undertakes tree planting and a ‘Computers for Africa' scheme. In partnership with The Tree Appeal, the company plants a tree each time a customer makes a software purchase and a reseller facilitates a sale. For every batch of 100 trees planted, 10 refurbished computers are shipped to Africa for use by African school children.

Julian Buck, Version One's MD, commented: "This award is testament to the positive environmental contribution of all Version One staff. Everyone at Version One has embraced our green initiative and the launch of the Clean and Green Project demonstrates our continued commitment to environmental best practice."
