Canon has signed a major deal with the University of Cambridge's Department of Engineering at its Ipex stand this year.
The contract win will equip the faculty with two of the latest Canon imagePRESS mono presses, running at 110ppm and 135ppm. In addition, a colour imageRUNNER ADVANCE C9060 PRO will also be installed as a modernisation upgrade to help both students and lecturers with their preparation of course notes, theses and exam papers.
A Canon Helix workflow system will link the production devices to three separate campus sites, enabling more than 1,200 undergraduates, 500 post-graduates and 500 faculty staff to access and automatically place orders for printing work. A planned integration with an Oracle cost control system will also enable the faculty to make significant cost savings.
The Department of Engineering produces a broad spectrum of lecture notes, exam papers, theses and educational aids and also has a need for more business focused literature such as brochures and business cards.
The new presses represent a deal for hardware, software and support worth more than £450,000.
Richard Collet-Fenson, secretary of department, University of Cambridge, Department of Engineering said: "We are delighted to confirm this signing with Canon at Ipex. The new presses represent a modernisation programme at the Engineering faculty which is designed to make the lives and work of students and staff as easy as possible. By combining the power and versatility of Canon's presses, along with a workflow system that is ideal for web-to-print ordering will generate considerable time and cost savings for us.
"The department has a need for good quality, just-in-time printing. Many lecturers need to reproduce formulas, equations and diagrams that require high-quality reproduction. In addition, many students need to complete course assignments on time. We will now be able to provide a much more effective public service and just-in-time ordering and delivery system to meet their requirements."
Richard Thomas, national sales manager, professional print CRD, Canon UK said: "We have been working with the University of Cambridge for a number of years and we are delighted with this latest signing. It marks a very successful Ipex for us and represents some of the great benefits we can bring to the education sector."
