When Charles Wood was given an RH task chair by his employers Lehman Brothers in 1993 to help him deal with a troublesome back problem, he never expected to still be using the chair some 17 years later.
The story came to the attention of RH Chairs when they received a phone call from Wood to ask about the possibility of doing something about the worn upholstery.
"There is still absolutely nothing wrong with the chair functionally,' he explained. "Apart from some worn fabric and the foam starting to thin, it's just as comfortable now as it was back then."
Wood left the employment of Lehman Brothers in 1996 but he was so taken with the comfort of the chair that the since-bankrupt global financial firm gave it to him as a leaving present. When he became self-employed in 2002 it found its way home with him.
RH was so taken with Wood's story that instead of sorting out the upholstery, they offered to replace the chair with a newer model.
"The chair he had been using for all those years - an RH3 - has now been replaced with a slightly newer version of the same model, a Logic 3," explained UK MD Jorgen Josefsson. "It's a different model but built to the same principles so we hope it will still be around in 2026."
