According to recycling solutions company, The Recycling Factory (TRF), 15 million mobile phones and 57 million ink cartridges are discarded in landfill sites every year across the UK.
TRF therefore suggests that instead of throwing these items away, consumers should instead convert them into cash via two new schemes the company's launching: ‘Cash for Christmas' and ‘Summer Savers'.
By recycling their used inkjet cartridges and unwanted mobile phones throughout the year, consumers can build up a sum of cash which they can then choose to receive either at the end of the year in time for Christmas or before their summer holidays - all in the name of a good cause.
Consumers can earn up to £5 on selected used inkjet cartridges and up to £100 on certain mobile phone models. To start saving log onto www.therecyclingfactory.com to set up a new account or transfer your existing account. Send TRF your used cartridges and mobile phones via freepost and in exchange, they'll send you a cheque.
As an added incentive, all Cash for Christmas and Summer Savers customers will automatically be entered into a prize draw to win an LG Cookie touch screen phone.
